Holiday Blubber

So I made it through the holidays, and am now almost 10 pounds heavier than before. I definitely felt it at the gym today. I’m looking forward to eating strict paleo for a while now, to get myself back to where I need to be.

On another note, I PR’d my Front Squat today at 245#. I failed on the first attempt, but after a couple minutes rest and a deep breath I was able to get back up. Can’t wait to see what 2013 has in store!

1st Crossfit Competition

So I had my first crossfit competition over the weekend. I was on a team of three. The first event was very fast paced and exciting. I was a bit disappointed to find out that the whole competition was very heavy on bar work, but Janet helped put it in perspective for me, because it played to her strengths. I suppose no competition is perfectly weighted in all directions.
On the first day of the competition one of my teammates, Pat, got very ill and could not continue. Mike, my other teammate, and I had a choice. We could continue on as individuals, or we could compete as a team of two instead of three. We chose to continue on as a team and to my surprise, we did not come in last on any event. I was very happy that we were able to finish all 5 WODs.
After the competition numerous people came down with stomach flus and colds including me. I had a three day fever of 101, and severe fatigue. I went to the doctor and he told me I had some form of mono, hopefully its not the kind that lasts months.
I cant wait to be back at the gym training!

The bell ringer epidemic

So its Christmas again, or at least close enough to it for the dreaded bell ringers to crawl out of their holes.
I went to the grocery store today and was personally asked to donate by a bell ringer, who also asked every other person. I don’t know where that money goes,  and how do I know half of it won’t go in someones pocket.
When I was leaving the store, I thought I’d be sneaky and leave out a different door, BUT NO! The bell ringers had my escape route blocked, and this time it was horrible! I was greeted three times, first by the horrible stench of a thousand squirts of perfume on this bell handler. Second I again hear the phrase “Donate!”. Finally I was blinded by the gold incisors staring me in the face. I quickly walked to my car and never looked back.
I’m not a scrooge. I actually enjoy helping people, however I’m disheartened that in todays society, people would much rather have your money than your time. A perfect example is the Big Brother program. I had planned on doing this ever since I was little and my friend Elliot told me about his “Big Brother”. When I moved to Naperville I signed up quickly. I received a letter in the mail telling me that they did not need my time and effort, but would gladly take my money. I find it ridiculous.

The only donating I will do is clothes, food, or volunteer work from now on.

Calm Before the Storm

Well it’s the day before my first Crossfit competition, and I’m a bit nervous. I definitely need to do more visualization of the events. It sounds as if there will be an hour or two between WODs at a minimum so I should have enough to time to rest and prepare for each. Can’t wait to feel the high of knowing I did my best. To me it’s not about winning or losing, its about giving 100%.

Sick

Thanksgiving was great, though I didn’t eat much. Came down with some sort of flu on Wednesday. I just hope that I can get better before the Crown Point crossfit competition next weekend. I want to be 100%!

Great WOD

I just had a great rowing class! rowed 11k, and Chauncey was correcting my form throughout.  My day started out pretty rough,  but it always gets better at Rowfit.

Can’t wait to get back there!
